Episode 1

The Clocktower

...

The wilds were dangerous, especially at night. That’s what Irene was counting on, as she knew her own would be soon coming after her for her treason. The young wolf gripped her white cloak with a gold pattern on it, terrified as she’d thought about what they would do to her if they found her. Would it be quick? Would they be merciful? Silent tears fled her blue eyes, as the wind blew through her hooded cloak and ruffled the fur beneath.

She was scared, yes, but she would not go out without a fight. Silver wolves were bred to kill, and they were good at it. Elisif held a gasp as three figures seemed to materialize out of thin air, in front of the tall grass where she hid, knowing full well the white cloak didn't clash well with greenery she attempted to camouflage in.

Silver wolves, just like herself. Only they no longer saw her as an equal, but a threat. They each wore blue robes with silver patterns, and each wore a silver mask that covered their faces. Two males, one female. Without their wardrobe, their noses, upper faces, backs and tails would be covered in dark grey fur, while their lower bodies, and under muzzles were covered in light grey fur. While most silver wolves tend to be smaller in size than regular wolves, the male in the middle was big enough to a battle leader, and acted like one, too. Stephan Rook was his name. Even with the mask, she knew. He stood out that much. She tried to hold her breath the best she could, hoping something would suddenly distract them while she made her escape.

Stephan:" Our target is close."

Male wolf:" What is target again."

This came from the male wolf, who came up from Stephan's right side. She didn't know who he was, but he was pretty small, even for a full grown silver wolf.

Female wolf:" Do you ever pay attention to the briefings?"

By the voice, Irene was able to identify the female as Rose Thorne.

Male wolf:" Of course I do... just remind me."

Rose:" We're here to eliminate a traitor."

Male wolf:" One of our own? But, isn't that against our doctrine?"

Stephan:" Once they turn traitor, they are no longer our own. Flesh and blood, maybe. But an enemy, nonetheless."

Male wolf:" Right, right, but um... Do we really need to kill them? I mean... they're no longer in Skystryll. Surely they're of no threat."

Rose:" What's wrong, Dwarf. Scared of other silver wolves?"

Dwarf:" No... I just don't think it's necessary to kill one of our own after they've already left. Isn't exile punishment enough?"

Stephan:" Think of what would happen if we just exiled our own. We wouldn’t have the respect that our pack does. Killing traitors also instills fear for those who want to abandon our values. It sends s message that we don’t tolerate treason.”

Rose:” But if you have a problem with that, feel free to speak against the council… like Irene did.”

Dwarf chuckled nervously.

Dwarf:” Me? Problem? Of course not. Our values are in fact, correct, and superior, and I would never question them. Heheh.”

Rose:” Good. Then let’s carry on.”

Dwarf:” Wait, I heard something.”

Dwarf’s ears perked, and they began looking around. Irene was beginning to panic. Did she make any noticeable movement? Did she breathe too loudly? No, she was sure she was completely still, and she hadn’t made a peep. No, it was something else.

Stephan:” Contact! Over there!”

The battle leader pointed hid nose towards a group of shadowy figures who looked like creatures, coming from their hiding spots behind the trees.

Rose:” Shadow beasts.”

Dwarf:” They’re coming from all around.”

Something cold touched her tail, and Irene turned quickly to confront it, only to be met with two white glowing eyes, surrounded by a void-black figure, in the shape shape of a tiger. The shadow tiger opened a large maw, capable of taking her whole. Irene twirled, a gust of wind blowing from her tail, pushing the shadow beast, as well as shredding the grass around her. Not that it would do her any good now. The sound of defending against an attack would have gotten their attention quickly.

Stephan:” It’s her!”

Irene panicked even more now. The only thing she could do was flee now. In an instant, the molecules of her entire body dispersed into the air, allowing her to move freely through the wind, and escape

Stephan:” Deal with these distractions, I’ll follow her trail!”

Stephan disappeared into the wind as well, and began to follow Irene’s trail.
